A HISTORY OF FREEDOM

The lecture/video tape series "History of Freedom"will also continue at the Unitarian Center at 3115 Friendship Place at the south end of Rockledge near US 1, Florida. at 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. on Monday October 4, October 18, November 9 and November 15. View a map for directions.

The first in the new program seminar series of will consist of six  sessions on "A HISTORY OF FREEDOM" led by Bill Scott. We will be using video tapes produced by the Teaching Company.

The lectures are by J. Rufus Fears, PhD Professor of Classics, University of Oklahoma. Fears is an outstanding lecturer.

We plan to listen to one lecture (30 min.) have 15 min. of discussion break for 10 min. then have the second tape and discussion. There will be an outline for each lecture and recommended reading.

 September 28, "The Birth of Freedom and Athenian Democracy.

 October 4, "Athens Freedom and Culture" and Athenian Tragedy :Education for Freedom".

 October 18, "Socrates on Trial and Alexander the Great".

 November 9, "The Roman Republic and Julius Caesar".

 November 15, " Freedom in the Roman Empire and Rome: Freedom and Cultural Creativity".

November ?, "Gibbons on Rome's Decline and Fall and Jesus".
